Gulf Coast Sourdough is an artisan bakery making the most flavorful sandwich bread in America.
Gulf Coast Sourdough combines old-fashioned techniques with modern tastes and sensibilities to produce loaves with flavor, texture, and character -- things decidedly absent from nearly all commercial baked goods.
Based in Tampa, a cradle of sandwich innovation, we craft unique, at times surprising flavors for loaves that will elevate America's sandwiches. After all, nearly 50% of Americans eat a sandwich every day -- we think it should be on good bread.
We use natural sourdough starter and unbleached, unbromated flours to make our products. From traditional tangy sourdough to cutting-edge flavor combinations like turmeric and black pepper to classic sweets like cinnamon swirl, our recipes pair well with dishes across the spectrum.
History
Christina Cann and Brett Wiewiora founded Gulf Coast Sourdough in 2015. They started out by selling breads every weekend at farmer’s markets throughout the Tampa Bay region. After several years of building a following and a foundation of wholesale customers, they opened the original Gulf Coast Sourdough Sandwich House location in Seminole Heights on Nebraska Ave in 2019.
In 2020 they purchased a warehouse building in Sulphur Springs and renovated it into a wholesale bakery, allowing them to meet growing demand. In 2021 they moved the Gulf Coast Sourdough Sandwich House shop to 6703 N Florida Ave, where it firmly established itself as a neighborhood staple and remains today.
In late 2024, Brett and Christina sold the wholesale bakery building and business to Bavaro’s, a local Tampa-based restaurant group.
In early 2026, Brett and Christina sold the Gulf Coast Sourdough Sandwich House to longtime employee and general manager, Samantha Facciola, who is continuing the traditions established by Christina and Brett and further growing the Gulf Coast Sourdough name into an iconic part of the Tampa food scene!

We serve Tampa-style pressed breakfast and lunch sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, flybys, and bread, of course :)
